I met a 20 year old at a delivery last week. I hope he listened.
Hey there…
I pulled up to drop windows — more than half a 53 foot trailer worth of seriously heavy windows — and there was one kid there to unload them.
Twenty years old. Working alone.
His dad used to own the place. His brother used to work with him. Then the higher ups let his dad go. His brother met a girl in Seattle and followed her. Just like that.
So this kid went from working for his dad alongside his brother to standing alone in a warehouse with a new boss making changes that don’t make sense.
I told him that reminded me of having a dispatcher who has never driven a truck…
There are just things they don’t know. My truck doesn’t move until I’m ready to move it. I can’t get somewhere in two hours when the miles say four. That’s not attitude. That’s reality.
Before I left I stopped and said… hey. Can I tell you something?
I’m not telling you this from theory. I’ve made serious money in business. I’ve also walked away from it when the integrity of the people I was working with didn’t match mine. And I’ve been rebuilding ever since.
If I knew at twenty what I know now… my life would look a whole lot different.
You need to start a business.
I don’t care if it’s a side hustle. I don’t care if it never becomes full time. But you need something that is YOURS that nobody can take away when a higher up decides to make changes.
A side hustle isn’t just about the money. It’s about the tax write off. It’s about the skill set nobody can downsize. It’s about having OPTIONS.
And right now… the biggest option available to a twenty year old that most of them don’t even know they have yet… Is AI.
AI is the great equalizer. It gives a twenty year old kid standing alone in a warehouse access to the same quality of research and strategy that used to cost serious money.
I grew up in a blue collar family. My dad worked for the electric company. My mom was a legal secretary for 38 years. Nobody told us there was another path.
And that plan doesn’t exist anymore.
You have to be in charge of your own destiny… or you will look back on your life with regrets.
I just didn’t want that kid to find out the hard way.
Hey thanks for stopping by and checking us out… we appreciate it… Later!!
