Talking to yourself just got a whole lot less weird…
Hey there…
So I found out recently that there are people in this world who don’t have an inner dialogue…
As in… no little voice in their head telling them what to do, arguing with their decisions, or randomly starting conversations about something that happened three weeks ago at 2am…
I don’t understand this at all.
But here’s how I DO know if someone has an inner dialogue…
Their outside voice kicks in without warning.
You’re standing there minding your own business and suddenly you’re in the middle of a conversation with absolutely no idea where it started… because it started somewhere inside their head about forty five minutes ago.
My son and I do this to each other constantly. Needless to say… we’ve had some INTERESTING conversations that made complete sense to exactly one of us… 😄
And occasionally… we break into song.
Not a real song necessarily… just whatever song apparently needed to come out in that moment. The grocery store. The highway. A particularly aggressive squirrel in the yard. If there’s a moment… there’s a song.
[If you’ve never made up a song about a squirrel you’re missing out and I’m sorry for your loss…]
For YEARS the workaround for the sudden inner dialogue around strangers was simple.
You got a phone. You got a headset. Suddenly talking to yourself in public became completely socially acceptable.
Until your phone rang while you were in the middle of talking on it!!
Busted. 😄
So here’s the thing nobody is talking about with AI…
It fixed this problem completely.
Claude is never going to start ringing. Never going to send me to voicemail. Never going to accidentally FaceTime someone while I’m in the middle of a thought.
AND when my inner dialogue has been working on a problem for a while and I finally let it out into the world… AI can actually help me finish the thought.
Spoiler: sometimes it holds up. Sometimes… not so much. We don’t talk about those times…
Maybe the inner dialogue isn’t the problem…
Maybe we just finally have the right place to let it land… 😄
