Believe it I just finished listening to Casey Kasem’s Top 40 from the week ending September 10, 1983!
So cool! I remember what a big part of our life Casey Kasem was every week when I was a teenager. He had such a unique voice. Even if you didn’t know what radio station he was going to be on, all you had to do was flip through the stations until you heard that voice coming across the airwaves and you knew you were there.
40 of our favorite songs that we have listened to all week long… Patiently waiting to see which one was going to be number one! And always such a letdown when it was over because you felt like it was time for a friend to leave.
Oh! And the dedications that he used to read… People from all over the place writing in their heartfelt stories about life, love, and loss.
Look, we didn’t have the Internet back then so we only got to hear from people when they either made a phone call from their house phone or when they wrote in… Yes, real live handwritten letters! It’s a dying art I know, but some of us actually still do that.
Actually pretty scary when you think about it. What happens when people are so used to keying in or typing in information that they lose the ability to write? God help them the day that the electricity doesn’t come back on!
Oops, sorry… Didn’t mean to get sidetracked… and yes, I’m THAT old!
I’ll have to check to see if 99.9 KOLA is one of the IHeart radio stations. Maybe I’ll be able to listen to Casey case the more often. It’s always fun to take a step back into my files because it brings back so many great memories.
And for those of you who might want to know… Maniac was the number one song for the week. 🙂
Warm regards,
p.s. How’s that for bringing back memories?
